This is the necklace you need if you are looking for versatility. It can go from day to night and you can wear it with just about anything.
This necklace shows how visual interest is possible with a single color. The interest comes from bringing together irregularly shaped, shiny onyx chunks and perfectly round matte onyx. Striking interplay of shapes and finishes turn basic to bold in this choker. Irregularities are inherent in the cut of the chunky pieces. A large, hand hammered, Thai Hill Tribes silver clasp completes the look. The Hill Tribes of Thailand use 970 to 990 silver in their work because the higher silver content, compared to sterling, makes the metal softer and easier to manipulate. As with all my pieces, it is one of a kind.
There are many beliefs about the protective qualities of onyx, but I particularly like the myth of its origin. It says that the goddess Venus was resting on the banks of the Indus River. As she slept, Cupid used the point of one of his enchanted arrows to give her a manicure. Her nail clippings then fell into the waters of the sacred river. Because the nails were of heavenly origin, they sank to the river bottom and were transformed into onyx.
The necklace is approximately 18″ long.
